Intense heat is visually mesmerising.... and transformative..

We carry all the shoots from pruning out of the vineyard, and burn them each Spring. This avoids soil compaction from mulching with the tractor, and also removes any disease lingering in them.

Burning them gifts us concentrated potassium which we return to the vines by hand.

A nice cyclical process...

We have just finished an amazing weekend of tasting, talking and learning.

Kog 25 Pannonia was an idea we had with @mirovino_kog to bring together a diverse selection of wines made from the three varieties that are close to our hearts: Furmint, Blaufränkisch and Welschriesling. Over 100 winemakers from 10 countries contributed their wines and each day we focussed on one particular variety. We were joined by national and international writers, sommeliers and winemakers.

The wines were poured blind, creating a unique experience for all involved, including the many winemakers who attended. It was not a competition or a debate - it was an opportunity to contemplate the wines in detail and discover the range of styles these three varieties can deliver.

There are many, many people to thank.....

Firstly, to every single winemaker who contributed their wine - thank you. We appreciate how much effort goes into every bottle you produce and we took great pride in presenting your wine.

To all the writers and sommeliers who travelled here - thank you. It was great to welcome you to Kog.

To the Kog winemakers who helped with organising and pouring the wines - thank you. It was a wonderful local team effort and a great example of
what we can achieve together.

And to @jeruzalem_slovenija and @ifeelslovenia for believing in the idea that by opening our minds and hearts to other winemaking regions, we can inspire and learn from each other. Grape varieties know no borders.

Now we disappear back into the vineyards and say hello again to the vines...

And we start thinking of Kog 27 Pannonia.......
